Scraps

The other week while driving in the car, Dellaina commented “When Daddy’s not home, you’ve got to be the no-er” haha.

Greg has been collecting scraps of paper at work that they would normally throw out, stapling it and bringing it home for Dellaina to color on! Brilliant! Recycling all the reports and emails that get printed out throughout the day and saves us on keeping the girl stocked in paper! She’s drawing “eels” these days. And still drawing Squiggles that Granny taught her. It was rainbows last week. At least these things she can draw and color herself, which is nice.

Wyatt walks around saying, “Fe, fi, fum.” No fo. And also “Bippity, boppity, boo!” especially if he has a wand of sorts. Even though, we’ve never actually seen Cinderella. sad! just previews! The other day, trying to recall the prince’s name in Sleeping Beauty, Dellaina suggested, “I think, Romance, maybe?” I know she got this from the previews as well! Hey, Beauty & the Beast, Beauty & Romance, seems perfectly logical to me. Last night, when naming the eels she had drawn she said “Tristan and George” and when I asked her where she got those names she said, “Tristan is from school and George is on Ice Road Truckers.” I busted out laughing.

If you ask Wyatt if he’s sleepy (like when riding in the car) or ready for bed, his response is “not yet” even as he yawns. He knows lots of forms for “no” but just doesn’t seem to comprehend it when we say it to him!

IMG_5786one morning (pre haircut) Wyatt was getting fussy and wanted to “see self” and take pictures with my camera and started pitching a little fit and I tried to distract him and take pictures so he could see both of us . .

On the way down to the Aquarium this morning, Dellaina casually comments, “that said East and West” and sure enough, we were passing the signs for 285 East and 285 West. We discussed where she’d learned the words and she told me exactly what book (“tongue twister book”) and showed me when we got home. East Beast and West Beast from Dr. Seuss’ Oh Say Can You Say? of course.

Wyatt has really been dunking his head under water. The other night I come in at the end of baths. Greg is combing Dellaina’s hair while she sits up on the counter and Wyatt is still in the tub, that is draining. He is just diving under the water and sliding from one end to the next! I tried to get the video camera tonight to capture his dolphin swim, but without success. Will try again later.

I also felt I should mention how much he gets banged up. The other week, he was “walking” across the parking lot of McDonald’s and managed to trip and fall and bust his lip. And then, within a few days, he fell at home and it was bleeding again. His mouth seems to be prone to it. He had a small bruise on his cheek that I don’t know how he got, and then he was playing with the plastic chair and fell over and busted his cheek on the hard table and got an even bigger bruise! He has scrapes on his legs and unknown and known injuries all the time. He’s ALL BOY.

IMG_5886 well, at least until he plays dress up or wants his toes painted. This hat should be a hard hat!

Watching things in HD is still so amazing. We were re-watching an episode of Planet Earth and it’s like looking in an aquarium, it’s so real. We learned that starfish taste with their feet and Dellaina knew that butterflies do, too, thanks to Fancy Nancy! Isn’t learning fun?! Speaking of, we had a great trip to the Aquarium this morning! Yay! Greg’s first trip and a real family outing. More later. . .

Progressing

After the concrete on Monday, there were some little things on Tuesday, but by Wednesday the siding guys were here and Russ was back to install the fence around the driveway. It was nice to have everything open, but it’s so awesome to be able to let the dogs out freely! Thursday, the siding guys finished up, including switching out a window in the garage with a door (soooo awesome to have access into the garage without having to open the garage doors or go all the way around through the office) and the door in our bedroom (out onto the Juliette balcony that we did not replace) into a window! The gutter guys came by, but said they’d have to come back once the siding guys were finished. Then, it rained on Friday, but Russ came back to do the inside finish work on the window in our room. I’ll have to snap a few more pictures, but here are the ones of the fans we hung.

Excuses, excuses. . .

I’ve been fairly slack this week at posting. Between headaches and fun outings and working on other projects (I’m up to Wyatt’s birth getting photos into albums!) and the return of some good TV (Yay, Project Runway!) I just haven’t been staying up as late this week to recapture everything. Emily did a good job posting some of what we have been up to this week, so check it out over here on her blog, because it’s been that kind of week and I’m lazy!

Tuesday evening after I got back from the gym and was trying to tuck Wyatt in, Dellaina was very chatty and telling me all sorts of things. Like, how Wyatt got a boo-boo on his lip from trying to blow on the stove! He took his baba out right on cue to show me and said, “very hot. ouch. I gotchu. mama kiss it.” (I’m sure Greg had been reassuring with “I’ve got you, it’s ok”) Greg told me the full story when I came back downstairs about how Wyatt had been in the chair by the sink “helping” Greg cutting up and cooking chicken and had leaned down to blow on the flames and Greg told him it was very hot, but somehow he got close enough one time and touched the hot pan (very large wok) with his little lip! It did get a little blister on it, but wasn’t too bad. I think Greg felt worse about it than it ever caused Wyatt pain.

Wednesday, we went to get Wyatt’s hair cut. He did really well, sitting still and watching Curious George. She tried to put something in it and scrunch the curls, but it was too short and just kind of stood up and looked funny. And it made it sticky! He kept touching it all afternoon and saying, “uh-oh!” too funny. It’s not as curly, but I think it looks really good, once we washed the product out! I’ve been wanting to trim it up for a while and kept contemplating just taking scissors to it ourselves, but decided to go for the cheap-kid’s-hair-cut-by-a-professional-route.

Thursday was covered in Emily’s post, but I’ll just add some pics of Hollie, who got us all downtown in the first place. And prompted me to buy a City Pass where we can go visit 6 different places in Atlanta in the next 9 days, which I am very excited about!

IMG_5962

IMG_5967 After our long adventure at the World of Coke, we drove around for a while looking for somewhere to eat and finally just went to the food court in the CNN center, but it was closing up, too, so didn’t have as many options, but it was late for the kids, so good to get “fast food” from Wendy’s and head on home. Of course, Dellaina noticed the ice cream place was also still open, so they had a little ice cream as well and were both conked out in the car on the way home.

Friday, was a low key day at home with just a grocery store outing in the rain, a movie and hats and swords the only things worthy of mentioning. I worked on my pictures some more and felt accomplished. Dellaina decided she wanted to make a “pirate hat” and when I asked her what one looked like, she ran upstairs and grabbed a Backyardigans book we rarely read and flipped to a page to show me one! So, then, we had to make Wyatt a King’s crown. [Notice Dellaina’s had already been ripped and taped by the time I got a picture!]

IMG_5979 she told me she was making a scary face!

IMG_5980

then, of course, they both needed swords. Well, Wyatt’s was technically a knife (or a dagger). She had wanted to make them out of the red felt as seen in the picture above, but I convinced her it wouldn’t be a very good sword in felt (which she still struggles to remember the word and how to say it, “what’s it called? svelte?”) and we found some cardboard instead (much to my hand’s chagrin)IMG_5981

IMG_5982

Saturday, we all got up and headed outside again to assist Greg in hanging light fixtures (which I don’t have pictures of, but did finally get some of the fans!) Still no power, but things are getting put in place! They ate lunch outside at the picnic table we brought back from the lake and have used just about every day (when it hasn’t been raining). Then, after naps, I took the kids to the pool while he cut the front yard! We walked in the stroller and he drove his truck to pick us up. The intention was for him to join us swimming for a little bit, but we were cold and he was fine not getting in the cold water!

Long weekend at the lake

After the Fancy Nancy party, we rode over to a different branch of the library for me to pick up Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series for the weekend (which I started late Thursday evening/Friday morning and finished late Friday evening/Saturday morning – all 600+ pages). We went by Greg’s work for kisses and then met Tyler for lunch at McDonald’s. I had planned to go home and take naps and then head down to the lake, but decided to just load up and go on. Wyatt took a very short snooze on the way down and I didn’t force the issue when we got there, so they were exhausted come bed time. And wild. And crazy! Wyatt is just this ball of energy and sometimes it’s like it just explodes out of him. He hunches down, balls up his fists and grunts and then springs up and runs around! He has this maniacal little laugh and is smiling the whole time, usually. I call it Hulking up (or out). It’s the wildest right before bedtime, like he’s running on fumes, but just has to expend every last ounce of energy before he completely crashes. Dellaina had a big time in the gerbil ball (a birthday gift for Grant one summer that goes through stages of being blown up or put away). Last time she wasn’t big enough to get in, but this time she was a big girl and very brave (according to herself). I tried to get in, but it had sand all in it and wasn’t very pleasant! And I thought I’d be able to roll it around and actually go somewhere, but, no, it still just blows you into the cove with the wind.

IMG_5916 Greg came down early Saturday morning – yay! Everyone was really glad to see him. So glad, dad was itching to play some golf with him, so they turned around and went to the golf course after 11:00, deluding themselves that it was cool (if they’d gone early and were finishing up by then!) Mom decided to take Dellaina, too and let her ride in the cart. She had a big time, playing with a babydoll, but did get hot and tired by the end and was running and fell on the cart path, scrapping up her hands a little and releasing blood-curdling screams. So they left after 8 holes, which was more than Mammie expected to get in, but she was playing well, so kept going as long as Dellaina was content. She had a really cute pink hat of Mammie’s to help with the sun when walking in the yard or at the golf course.

We were hoping Doug & Morgan would make it down, but alas, they had lives elsewhere. Emily was working, so they didn’t make it down, but we still had fun just being a small crowd. Garris arrived Sunday morning and spent the day working on projects. The kids were ecstatic to hang on him and play. Greg watched the race Saturday night. Sunday, he got up and helped finish the electrical work in the downstairs bathroom and got the power turned on! So, they now have a functioning bathroom with an extra washer and dryer downstairs. it doesn’t have the built in folder, though (Mema or Mary, the cleaning lady – if things got left in). We had a big weekend.

I had planned to work on my pictures, but forgot the CD so I could label them first. *sigh. But, I got some done today, because I was still in that mode! After naps and the handprints, I loaded up the kids to go meet Emily and Samuel at their neighborhood pool. We got there just as Daniel was getting home, so he pulled in and hung out with us a bit, too. The water was really cold, so I didn’t last long before suggesting we head to the house! Emily was awesome enough to do baths so I could get my run in and Daniel whipped up the spaghetti for dinner! If we hadn’t been so cold, we would have saved the baths until after the spaghetti, but. . .it all worked out. It was a fun evening. Samuel is walking around pretty well now, so that was exciting to see! I’m excited to have some cook outs on our new outdoor space. . once it all gets finished!!
