Fragments

So, even though I wasn’t posting…I still made some notes. Now, however, many of them don’t make sense because it has been so long and I don’t remember the circumstances surrounding them, or even sometimes, which child said them! But, I’m going to try to fill in some of the gaps of the last 8+ months!

Dellaina went through a phase where she was replying "oh great" to everything. It seems silly to mention it now, because she doesn’t really do it anymore, but I do remember now that I read this note, her using it a lot nearly a year ago!

Wyatt commented about a character in a cartoon or movie we saw, “I think he's a Chinese person, because they say 10, 9, 8...Lift off” It took me a minute, but I realized he meant instead of ending with “Blast off” Very interesting observation.

When Wyatt doesn’t want to eat anymore vegetables, he starts claiming to be full. He literally believes this saying and would put his hand up and visually show where he was full up to – somewhere along his neck. He also described feeling full as having too much energy in his stomach and protests against too much energy/fullness, because “one time, the energy in my stomach, pushed it all the way up!” meaning, he threw up!

Riding in the car, he asked out of the blue, “how do you spell ‘throw up?’” and then, "’Throat?’ They both start with the same/sound alike”

He also talks about his clogger. Which is located in his throat and helps regulate this energy/food filling up issue.

Wyatt explained early in the school year how he was 1 of only 2 to get "tissue box" And it took us a second to realize he was trying to say Treasure Box.

Dellaina? told me one morning, “I had a dream, and it felt real, that they put the 1st place ribbon on my picture”

She got $2 from the tooth fairy and wanted to give $1 to Wyatt. so sweet. This must be an old note! I did love how they were always so thoughtful and considerate of each other – if one got something, they were usually asking if they could get one for the other, even if they weren’t around. Maybe they are still like this…I’m not quite sure.

“I love my family” Just a quiet proclamation made randomly in the middle of a mundane evening. Worthy or reporting.

One of them, possibly Wyatt? made a suggestion to “take a picture of the coloring page [that came home from school and there was only one of] and print out in black & white so can color again” I just remember thinking that was pretty creative and advanced thinking.

One night as I’m singing “Rock-a-bye baby” (so I know this is an OLD note, because it feels like forever since I’ve sung a song while tucking in) and Wyatt asked what a 'bough' was, so I tell him about the song being about the limb falling and baby falling and jokingly, incredulously ask, “who puts a baby in a tree?!” and without hesitation and in all seriousness, he responds, "birds..or a chipmunk...or a squirrel" I love the minds of kids. So pure. Fanciful and literal at the same time!

Whoa, I’d forgotten this note, talk about a panic attack. One day, Dellaina tells me her private parts were bleeding. !!!! And sure enough, there were little spots of blood in her underwear and I ask her if she fell on the playground and she tilts her head and says, “yeah!” and explains about tripping and landing hard on a bar or beam of wood (I can’t remember which right now) but I thought, wow! And ouch! and thank goodness there is an explanation!

I have a note about “sore arm, dizzy” and I’m assuming this is something Dellaina was going through.

I don’t remember this story, but here is my note: “spider FREAK OUT, mammie” And that makes me laugh just as it is.

Wyatt asked me, “what is thick?” And like a good nursing student using therapeutic communication, I simply repeat back, “I don't know, what is thick?” And he provides, “when it's hard to get out.” I thought that was a pretty good definition.

Wyatt exclaims, “there is something bigger than infinity...double infinity!” And Dellaina asks, “what about infinity x infinity?!” And he responds dismissively, “That's 2 infinities.” So, obviously, the same thing he had already said!

I had this note on my phone from riding in the car one morning and I think I remember it being Wyatt, who had been quietly staring out the car window simply asking, “Mama, do you ever have an unhappy attack?” And I just thought it was the cutest, sweetest, possibly most heartbreaking question.

One morning Wyatt came walking into my room asking, “are you dressed?” (often we will race in an effort to get him in gear!) And as soon as he sees me, he remarks, “You look Good!” What a way to start the day!

Dellaina, last Spring was studying something I didn’t even know what it was or how to pronounce properly! I was attempting to read off of a paper she brought home from school (in KINDERGERTEN!) and she had to correct me on the correct way to say “oviparous and viviparous” and explain to me that it means birth from egg versus live birth! huh. Pretty cool. And a creative means of being able to study eggs and have an egg hunt at school without persecution about bringing religion into the school activity.

Wyatt randomly busts out, “a raptor is a living relative of dinosaurs.” And he says things with such conviction. Sometimes, even if I want to doubt what he’s telling me, he seems so sure, it’s believable!

"Mama, who's going to be Santa when Santa dies?" [pause] “Has to be someone magic. That can disappear into thin air.”

Dellaina: “Daddy left his ring in the bathroom.”

Me: “Well, you need to tell him when he comes down, because he certainly can’t go traveling away from home without it!”

Dellaina: “Yeah, because then no one would know he was married!”

Me: “That's right! And why is that important?”

Dellaina: “Because then, someone might steal him away and he wouldn't have a wife anymore.”                                                                           precisely. so long as we're clear.

Wyatt? commented, “every time a car goes by, the leaves dance” and I just loved his description.

Oooh, wasn’t I smart, I actually put a date on this note! 11/28 - "Do people have a Gob?" Dellaina asked me because she was eating a Gobstopper and wanted to know if gob was a real thing!

Confessions…

*I left my deodorant at the lake the weekend before my big test and interviews. I don’t know why I didn’t just go buy a new one – guess I was a little distracted by other things on my mind. I usually use a gel deodorant, but my back up solid did NOT do the job and it was not a great time to be.

*When I run, especially when it’s cold, my nose runs. Most of my workout clothes don’t have pockets to put tissue in, and even then rare times I do have pockets, I forget to actually put the tissue in. So, I end up blowing me nose on my sleeve and rolling it. Or, sometimes, the inside of my shirt, up around the collar (if it’s short sleeve, I guess and even sometimes when I’m at the gym!).

*I love my $8 Walmart ring. I love these kinds of organic, curvy patterns and I love leaves. I’ve got a couple of fun ones now I like to rotate wearing.

*I have my eye on this gorgeous little bauble from Stella & Dot. A friend from high school is an independent salesperson and posts things on Facebook..there was a picture of her wearing this necklace and I had to go look it up and find it. I was a little shocked by the price, but maybe once I start earning a paycheck again…I don’t usually wear anything other than my diamond necklace Greg got me when Dellaina was born and this may be too big and gaudy, and I usually don’t like gold at all, but I really like it. I’ve always been attracted to Grandma-style.

*I know you want your kids’ teachers to like your kids, but…maybe not TOO much. Wyatt’s teacher, Mrs. Izzy, is very nice and really favors Wyatt, but sometimes it just gets under my skin. In the mornings during car riders, it started out as a funny joke that Mrs. Izzy had to be the one to get Wyatt out of the car – staking claim, “her boy”, etc. And the other teachers laughed about it and if they happened to get a turn, would say things like, “uh-oh, I’m going to be in trouble with Mrs. Izzy for getting you out!” And it was humorous, but also, went a little too far/crazy sometimes being over emphasized. And she talks about her sons as his brothers?! And says they know all about him..again, joking, but still…really?! She has explained that he looks so much like her own son did when he was little and I get that, to a point. On Wednesdays, he wears his gymnastics clothes to school, because Greg picks him up in the afternoons and takes him back to his office and I come by and grab him as soon as Dellaina gets off the bus to get to gymnastics in time, so there isn’t much time to change. The one that really got to me was one Wednesday dropping him off, Mrs. Izzy sees him dressed for gymnastics and says, “oh, today is gymnastics! Remember who your number 1 fan is” referencing and pointing to herself and I just bristle and remark, “yeah, maybe the person that has paid for it, taken you and watched you for an hour every single week for the past 2 1/2 years” I don’t really know if she heard me or not or got the message, but it’s just rubbed me the wrong way. And I know it’s a little silly, because I am glad he has a fan and someone that recognizes that he’s smart and sweet and special.

*I sometimes let the kids do wild and crazy things without even getting upset! (And I also might encourage/enable/allow an increasing obsession with stuffed animals) I had asked Dellaina to get all of her animals off her bed so that I could change the sheets and Wyatt comes into my room to report, “Dellaina threw all of her animals on the square!” I asked, “on the landing?” And he says, “yes!” I tell him that I’d asked her to take them off her bed and that it was fine and he says, “Oh. I threw some of mine, too.” Guess he wanted her to get in trouble first! So, I tell them I’m going to take a picture and send it to their Daddy and they scream, “No!!” because we know Daddy likes things clean, neat and picked up and might not approve! But, I laughed and told them it was ok, they’d have it cleaned up by the time he came home and we made a game out of throwing them back up the steps, rather than making a million trips up and down trying to carry them all.

*Sometimes, I force Wyatt to wear clothes even when he looks this pitiful about it:

IMG_5308  IMG_5306

I usually do let him pick out his own clothes, occasionally making suggestions if things clash too badly, but not pushing the issue too much if he balks or protests. He’s had issues with pants being too white, which I could understand, but these he complained were “too blue!” And I just think they are so handsome, I couldn’t let him whine his way out of them.
