One day, Dellaina remarked, “they do 2 things that they're not supposed to do to come in: Boss scratches and Hank barks. [pause]They have a big brain, but they just don't remember.”
Wyatt has started using a deep voice for pretend play. It’s really amusing to me. One day, he was “making cookies” and “ran out of sugar” so he had to “go to the grocery store” and he goes into the kitchen and I hear him using his deep voice for himself and then a higher pitch for the woman working in the store.
deep: "scuse me, ma'am, do you have any sugar?" (so polite! love it!)
high pitch: "yes, right here. actually, it's in the dining room."
[goes into dining room] deep: "this dining room?"
high pitch: "yes, right here"
There were a few days when he started using the word, “fock!” I’m not sure he really knew what he was saying, and he wasn’t exactly saying the F word, but he saw it get a reaction out of us and continued for a few days. Also, one night I was reading Dellaina’s story after already having tucked him in and read his story and sang him songs and I was ignoring his cries when I heard him get quiet and then say, “dammit!” That got a response from me.
One day he was telling me something and said, “like in ‘raining gumdrops’, what’s that movie called? I can't really remember” referring to the movie Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler that we’d watched recently and the cover is Adam Sandler with an umbrella and it’s raining gumdrops.
Wyatt can count in Spanish! (from hearing Dellaina do it so often!) and snap! Not super loudly, but still, he’s got the technique and there is sound.
One afternoon while Wyatt was still at school, Dellaina announced, "I want a mineral.” A little confused at first, but then I remember an episode of Dinosaur Train where they went into a dark cave and discovered shiny material in the walls/rocks and taught that it was called minerals. So, I made the mistake of talking to her about gemstones and birthstones and we looked up what her birthstone for December was and then jewelry with it and now she is constantly remarking, “I want my mineral!" and “I’m getting a necklace for my birthday!” Also, she saw some drawn pictures of jewels on a coloring book and remarked, “polished mineral!” too funny.
We had a cookout at the pool on Sept. 11th and she had brought a little toy dinosaur to play with in the pool. Another boy from the neighborhood loves dinosaurs, saw it and commented that it was a brontosaurus. We all praised him for knowing. The next day, Dellaina informed me that it wasn’t really a brontosaurus, but was actually a pliosaur. Not convinced, I asked how she could tell, because they both had long necks and tails and she matter-of-factly told me the pliosaur had flippers. I looked again and sure enough the toy she had indeed had flippers, not regular feet, I hadn’t really noticed.
Mrs. Audrey told me a story one day when picking up Wyatt about how Maya loves him and sometimes follows him around a good bit and she’d heard Wyatt turn around and tell her, "I'm not married to you!" and she just thought it was the cutest thing.
After getting ready for picture day, I walk into my room and see Dellaina looking at herself in the mirror and she looks a little concerned, so I ask her what was wrong. She calmly stated, "sometimes when I smile, I look freaked out" I just thought it was hilarious, because, sometimes she does have this “fake” stretched, sort of freaked out smile!
Wyatt has been using lines from movies in every day conversations. Mr. Martin came out to see us one day when we stopped by Greg’s work and asked Wyatt something and he said, “shooot” just like Mater on Cars (voice of comedian Larry the Cable Guy)!
While driving, Wyatt suddenly asks, “where do you go when you died?” and I answered, “that’s a very good question. If you are good, you go to heaven.” He responds, “heaven?! lady!” (just like Timon in Lion King remarks, “Lady, have you got the wrong lion!”)
He also was saying, “suck!” when he was mad at something yesterday and I asked him where he learned it and he said himself. I informed him it wasn’t a good word. Our list of bad words is just growing and growing.
