Hopping along…

Before we left the lake, we had a little egg hunt…(only Wyatt wouldn’t put his shoes on and come outside, so he missed it.)

and discovered something left by the Easter Bunny! Princess bling! and only 3 things of candy! good job, EB! Of which, Dellaina chose the fruit snacks (over the M&M’s or Smarties, surprisingly!)IMG_1886 IMG_1887

IMG_1888 Wyatt decided to come out, too, since there was a grand prize and he got a fun pack with a little race track!IMG_1889

Then, we made our way to G&G’s where Daddy was already there and they had a new fun surprise!

IMG_1893

IMG_1894 and the Easter Bunny had come to their house, too! With one giant chocolate bunny (tradition) and clothes! (yay, because had you noticed those snug britches she was squeezed into?) So, thought we’d managed to come away without too much candy, but then…we had an egg hunt with candy in all 124 eggs!! oh well. It was a lot of fun. All 3 kiddos did really well.

IMG_1898 IMG_1899 gymnastic skills!

IMG_1900 IMG_1901 the sand pile was just too tempting.

IMG_1902

IMG_1903 we even ate our lunch outside on the new picnic table!

IMG_1904 Addison was a super swinger! She’d just hop right up in that swing and get going super high! Neither Dellaina nor Wyatt can swing. It’s so awkward trying to teach them, too. I keep laughing because it looks so funny, but it just hasn’t clicked yet. I really thought swinging next to Addison would help, but…it didn’t.

After a good visit, we went over to Garris & Mary’s new house in Bogart! They closed on Wednesday and so were still moving in. It’s a good little home and I’m excited for them. Can’t wait to see when they are more settled. Greg helped with the ceiling fan in the living room and then we headed home. It was late when we got back, but we had a great weekend. I was SOOOO excited to see my surprise.

Greg had followed us on Friday when we left the school Easter party rather thank turning to go home and I called and asked him what he was going to Lowe’s to get and he challenged me to see if I’d notice when I got home. Of course!

IMG_1915 IMG_1916

Our old rotting white mailbox on the cracking yucky green post was a real eyesore! It matched the green mildew on the house, so once we had the house (and deck/fence) pressure washed (thank goodness!) it was time to replace the mailbox, finally. We’ve only had the new mailbox sitting in our garage for a year! Doesn’t it all look so spiffy and clean. I love it. It makes me proud every time I come home.

Magical

Thursday morning, dad had heart surgery! He’s had an aneurysm in his aorta for a couple of years that they have been monitoring and apparently it had grown since his last exam/checkup, so they decided to put a stint in. It’s a fairly standard procedure these days, and with 2 small incisions in the groin area, it’s much less invasive than when they would have to cut your chest open! I had a test that afternoon, so we couldn’t leave early, but after dinner, the kids and I loaded up and headed to stay with Granny & Granpa, intending to see Grandaddy at the hospital the next morning before he was released. It was nice to see G&G even though it was already bedtime by the time we got there and they both had to work the next morning. Granpa had gotten some little math workbooks at his store and brought them home. Even though they were 1st and 2nd grade level, Dellaina wanted to work on them, which meant, Wyatt did, too. She did really well, even catching on how to do “some traction” (as she reported to Greg) and take things away with her fingers.

The next morning, we woke up leisurely, ate breakfast and then headed over to Granny’s school for a quick visit. They were in the library and just going into the Star Lab when we got there! It was a big inflatable bubble we got to crawl into and they projected constellations, phases of the moon and map of the earth and the stars in the sky as we see them. It was really dark and Wyatt got a little nervous and wanted to sit in my lap, but once they saw the Lion! and the Wolf! and the snake! and the bear! it was pretty cool. By the time we left, Dad had been released and was ready to go, so we decided we’d just meet up, since the hospital was across town for us anyway and they’d be coming back by. I drove them through my old neighborhood and pointed out my house and the creek we used to play in (it’s now red/orange?! and yellow trim. with a dark brown garage door) and then went to play on the playground at McDonald’s. We ate and then went over to meet up with Mammie & Grandaddy, who’d gone to eat at the clubhouse at Jennings Mill. They were just finishing up when we got there and I was surprised how well dad looked. Other than his hospital hair and PJ pants, he was very active and alert. I was just expecting more feebleness, I guess! (Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers! He seems to be doing really well) So, naturally, I loaded the kids up and sent them on with the guy that had just gotten out of the hospital from having heart surgery! They headed to the lake and after dropping off birthday cards in Morgan’s mailbox, I headed back home. The had a great weekend with beautiful weather and lots of doting from aunts and uncles at the lake.

I got in a little nap and then went for my run. On which, I fell. Totally busted in the first cul-de-sac, running back down the hill, so lots of momentum. I stepped on a pinecone or sweetgum ball and rolled my right ankle, landing hard on my left knee and hands. I laid there and cried and watched my leg jump and shake for a bit and examined the layers of skin now on the inside of my pants, but I managed to get up and walk a bit and then kept going for my “run”, even more of a hobble than usual. My ankle didn’t hurt much, thankfully. I’ve rolled and sprained it so many times, it’s been stretched out a bit by now, I think. But my knee is very banged up, bruised and sore. I’ve been limping around all weekend. It’s especially hard on the stairs and I’m doing the Dellaina: taking them together – right steps down, left joins it; right steps down, left joins it; rather than right on a step, then left on the next step below, then right on the one below that, etc. After showering and icing it for a bit, I went out to dinner with my kickboxing gal pals. Good company, yummy salmon tacos and 2 “street margaritas” served in mason jars helped nurse my wounds! And the long island and divine lemon cupcake accompanied by live music was soothing for the soul as well!

Saturday, I got to sleep in, then went up to the neighborhood pool with Greg and trimmed the Crepe Mrytles around the pool area. We had to use our ladder to climb the fence because the lock box with the key in it wouldn’t open. We are the pruning bandits! Look out! It was nice to be outside in the glorious weather, working side by side; sometimes quietly, sometimes easily conversing. It was like old times, before the kids, but typically, we’d remark on the kids and what they’d be doing or saying, so also different.

I finally went to the dentist that afternoon for the first time in 2 1/2 years since losing my job/insurance. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, although it did take a long time. A few weeks ago, I felt like I had food stuck behind my permanent retainer on my bottom teeth and was trying to floss and popped it off one side! So, I had to pull it off the other side and realized, I just had that much buildup behind the bar from not being able to get to it well! So, it’s been nice to have free access for a change and it was great to have the buildup professionally cleaned off!

When I got back, I took a little nap and then hobbled around the neighborhood. Then got in a walk with Greg & the dogs; also like old times. We watched some shows and both observed by this point in the day, it was much different than our normal routine, because the kids would be upstairs in bed. But they weren’t.

I slept in again on Sunday while Greg went in to work for a couple of hours. I did some laundry and cleaning around the house and then headed outside. I limped around the neighborhood again and then helped Greg dig up and roll a massive rock to border the flower beds in the backyard. We spread mulch there and up at the mailbox and felt fairly accomplished. Can’t believe it’s February and we’re out in short sleeves sweating so much!

Then, after a brief nap, I drove down to Pemberton Park, near the World of Coca-Cola and the GA Aquarium and met up with mom and the kiddos. They were eating at Johnny Rockets and their hair was very bedraggled and endearing. They were animated and excited about the upcoming show. We walked over to the tent to see Peter Pan! It’s called a 360 degree theater, where the stage is in the middle and seating goes mostly all the way around. They project scenery up onto the tent walls and ceiling behind you and all the way around and it’s a fascinating experience. You felt like you were flying along with them and ducked when they went under bridges or flinched when the cannons were shot out at you and boomed! We also all jumped at the end with the crocodile had a very large, deep burp after eating Captain Hook. The kids were enthralled. Wyatt was on the edge of his seat a lot and would sit with his hands covering his mouth at times, anticipating. Dellaina was giggling and also clinging, but it was just so wonderful to experience with them and the light and joy in their eyes. Tinkerbell was a hoot – so expressive and definitely the comic relief. The crocodile was a very cool puppet clearly controlled by 2 men, but the growl vibrated your chest and it was very cool. There was so much wire work with acrobatic flying scenes and the Mermaids were ribbon trapeze artists. Tigerlily, the Indian girl had a dance that was entertaining. The end fight scene had a “slow motion” part acted out that was amusing (like The Matrix) It was fun to have the kids clapping right along with everyone after different scenes and at the end when all of the actors come out to take their bow (or aerial flip as Tinkerbell did). We kind of jumped up at the end to leave and Dellaina broke down. It was late and a long weekend, I think she was let down that it was over and then she started crying that she wanted to go back to the lake. Wyatt cried about going back to the lake, too, until I reminded him that Daddy was at home waiting to see him. Then, he started crying about wanting a sword he saw 2 other boys had, but we’d already exited the tent by then, thankfully.

Aqua!

We started work on our basement room recently. Right as we were getting close to setting it up as a nice, useable room, it flooded and we had to empty out the large closet into the room and rip up a random section of the carpet. And there it sat. for a year and a half. It’s been a big collection of piles and stuff we’d throw down the stairs and forget about. We’ve talked about it for months, but last weekend while we were at the lake, Greg cleared it out and finished pulling up all of the carpet and removed the baseboards. We’ve been pricing out to have the tile he got years ago laid (rather than attempting it ourselves). This weekend, we went to Lowe’s and got supplies for it (mortar, grout, spacers and sealant) and also to replace the trim around the doors and taller baseboards. We picked out a fun color, too! I love paint color names, but forgot what this official one was and didn’t get the card back, but it had Aqua in it! And sure enough, it is! So bright and cheery and I’m excited. It feels like an energetic sky room now. After filling holes and sanding and removing light and receptacle plates and the heating vents, painting commenced! The kids really helped us paint! They took turns, each getting two rollers of paint and then I’d go over and smooth it out. We had a nice strip in the middle of the room because they didn’t go too low and couldn’t reach high. Greg was cutting in because he can reach! It worked well for the tinted primer, but wasn’t nearly as exciting for them when going over the same basic color (rather than over white where you can really see the difference!) so we put in a movie and Greg & I knocked out the first coat of actual paint this morning. We did the second coat this evening. I’m hoping that’s all it will need and do love how it’s looking! Can’t wait for the tile to get in and the trim and baseboards and to be able to start loading it and organizing! So many plans for rugs, floor pillows, tables, storage, a TV, wall decals, shelving and a craft table for my scrapbooking! Stay tuned. . .

IMG_1243 Dellaina wore her Pirate’s hat. makes perfect sense.

IMG_1244

IMG_1245 notice the blue in his hair! And his shirt also had the most blue on it (back) but all in all, they did very well.

after the second coat (still drying, but hopefully will be the final coat!)

Into the New Year

The Wednesday after Christmas, Granny came up to visit for the day. We had lots of fun and once again, she was here after Christmas just in time to help me pack up all of my stuff! It seems like that’s worked out every year since Dellaina was born! It’s so nice to have someone around to help me take down and pack up or just to keep the kids occupied! Then, after naps, the kids loaded up and went back home with her! They stayed two nights and I had some time to myself and with Greg, which was novel and nice. I did some running around, cleaning (steam cleaned the carpets Wed night, except, it wasn’t sucking the water back up, so I just wet the carpets! until we realized and tinkered with it enough to get it working again and I had to go back over everything again a few times) and even went to a movie by myself! I saw Burlesque, which I had heard good reviews for and seemed like a good, flashy movie for the big screen. It was a fun outing. Greg was off on Friday, so I got to spend the morning with him. I went for my run, showered and headed to Athens after lunch. I brought the doggies with me and picked up the kiddos and headed to the lake for the weekend. Emily & Daniel & Samuel were still around, waiting to watch the disappointing UGA game. We all sat around playing Harbor Master and Angry Birds on mom’s new Ipad and Mema’s new touchscreen computer/large phone or something? Even the kids learned how to play and wanted in on the rotations of turns. Emily & I have been swapping out best scores the past couple of weeks and have logged an embarrassing number of hours playing. After the UGA game ended, Emily & Daniel headed to Athens for an evening out with old friends and stayed at Doug & Morgan’s.

After a nice evening and getting the kids in bed, I spent my New Year’s Eve watching Titanic with mom and Mema. When it was over, we thought, “hmm, wonder if we can catch the peach/ball drop” and looked at the clock to see it was already 1:30. oops. Happy New Year!

We did eat our black-eyed peas and greens and had a gorgeous day – I was nearly in short sleeves!

IMG_1220 Mom took the kids and Mema to Wal-mart, right around lunch time, but it worked out pretty well, they even found a playground to play on! She had wanted to take their new Prius, but I couldn’t get 3 car seats in the back seat, so they had to take Mema’s car, but it was fine. Emily & Daniel came back down for the night. I ran on the treadmill twice, using the IPad to scroll through Facebook and blog posts I’d missed over the holidays. It really helped pass the time. I couldn’t comment much, but it was good reading! We headed home before naps to try to get back in the groove for going back to school.

Sleepover!

The weekend of Oct. 15th we drove to Doug & Morgan’s house after picking Dellaina up from school – it took over 2 hours, but not the over 3 it had taken us the weekend before! We got them changed into their costumes! And they went off to Morgan’s school for the Halloween Carnival! I headed over to G&G’s house, went for my run, had full-fledge conversation without interruption and lots of quiet! (ok, this is a lot of !!! I’ll try to reel it in a bit) We went out to eat at CFA. I checked in at 8:20 and they were strapping the kids in getting ready to go eat dinner! They had by-passed eating beforehand and just grabbed a few things at the carnival and had a big time – Wyatt jumped and jumped and jumped and Dellaina went around with Morgan and played games. They went to CFA, too! Good thing we had left and didn’t run into them; the kids didn’t know I was sticking in town for the night. Then, I got a text a little after 9 that they were finishing up icee pops and starting bath! It was well after 10 before I got confirmation that they were going to bed. I know they were having a wonderful experience and conked out. I had been a little concerned about how Wyatt would do overnight, so was really glad it went so well!

I had planned to head back home, but Greg had said not to rush because he needed to go to work for most of the day. So, I got up and went with Granny to the OC Fall Festival. We walked around and had a big time, but didn’t hear from D&M until 10:45! We were getting ready to do a drive by of their house! They had had a wonderful morning: got up a little before 8:00, made waffles, ate well, played music, sang “Wyatt Row” and watched cartoons. They were getting ready to head to Harris Shoals park. Pics from Doug’s phone:

Anita, John & Grant were also in town, and they ended up meeting up for lunch at a pizza place that the kids really enjoyed. They got back for naps by 2:00. Apparently Wyatt put up more of a fight than Dellaina, but eventually fell asleep and got in a good nap. Granny & I ran around doing some errands, visiting Andrea, eating lunch outside at Zaxby’s, running to Pier 1 and Bed, Bath & Beyond looking for wall art for their newly painted dining room (They removed the busy wallpaper and suddenly the walls seem bigger and more bare!) We went back and picked up Andrea when she got off work at 3:00 and went back to walk around the Fall Festival. We got a funnel cake and some cool name art for Andrea. I went for my run and showered and got to see Granpa, but decided to not go to dinner and instead to get on the road to stick with the original plan somewhat. They met up with D&M at Cracker Barrel and had a good dinner and made the exchange. They got back before I had made it home! It was good to get home and read a little bit and have a good night’s sleep.

Sunday morning, Greg got up and drove to G&G’s to visit for the day and bring the kiddos back home while I went to my study session and then ran. (and snuck in a nap before they got back!) It was a lot of fun to get to spend some time with Granny like the old days where we could just run around freely and talk freely. And to know that the kids were having an awesome time, too!

Punkins

Thursday, October 7 after Dellaina’s dance class and picking the kids up, we went down to a neighbors house to play. They have 4 kids, with 2 close in age to D&W. It was fun. They have a tiny pet turtle that was really cute IMG_0278

IMG_0279

IMG_0280

Wyatt had a big time playing with Thomas (5) even though it took him a bit to warm up to him. When they were playing in the sand box Thomas said, “Wyatt’s in charge.” and I don’t know what Wyatt thought that meant, but he was adamant, “I’m NOT in charge!” and then a few minutes later I heard him declaring, “I’m in charge!” guess he figured out it wasn’t a bad gig after all. Thomas showed Wyatt his “collection” (from Dinosaur Train, which both D&W LOVE to watch) of rocks and sticks

IMG_0277 and taught him about sword fighting! Wyatt LOVED to sword fight – they had a few nicks each, but all in all did ok. He’s wanted to play it with me ever since. Dellaina mostly sat inside with Isabelle and listened to her read stories.

We got their adorable school pictures back.(Dellaina’s individual was cute, but Wyatt’s was just SO good and I have to be frugal, so cuts are made and I’d gotten Dellaina’s cute Spring picture and not Wyatt’s. oops, I lied, apparently, I did get his as well, but still, it’s ok.)

SCAN0102 SCAN0103

Dellaina did not have school on Monday, October 11, so we thought about taking a long weekend to go down to the lake. But, Mammie & Grandaddy were actually coming up to Atlanta to go to the GA Tech Homecoming, so we revised our plan and decided to go to G&G’s Friday night and make our way down to the lake leisurely on Saturday. Granny had gotten out all of Greg’s old He-man, Star Wars and Wrestling action figures for the kids to play with and they were a huge hit. I spent some time looking up character names online because it was nostalgic for me, too. Volton! Skeletor, Battle Cat! Wyatt named him “watermelon” which I just found precious.

IMG_0281

IMG_0282

After dinner at Ryan’s, they had suckered us into the machines out front and got a bouncy ball and Tattoo. Wyatt was tired and kept saying, “I just love my ball” with so much emotion. We ended up leaving it behind and Granny mailed it to us the next week! Dellaina very carefully planned out her outfit and timing to wear with her tattoo so her friends could see it.

Saturday morning, Andrea and Addison came over to visit and somehow I talked them into going to Washington Farms pumpkin patch with us, so we all loaded up in the car and headed out. It was such a beautiful day and we’d had the rain and scheduling debacles in years past trying to go for the adventure. It was pretty hot and Andrea’s blood sugar was getting low, so our first mission was getting her something sweet to eat or drink. We rode the free hay ride to get to the back section where the concessions were, but admission was $12 for adults and $8 for kids to get into this area and we were just astounded we’d have to pay over $50 for all of us. They did have some fun activities for the kids in this area, but for the adults to just stand around and have to pay that money? We just weren’t prepared, so got in to get a Coke, played on the free playground and sandbox area, picked out our pumpkins and headed home. It was just enough anyway. It was a good little adventure and now we know. We ended up staying for naps. and then my run. and then Granpa getting home. And then going out to dinner at Cracker Barrel! We picked up Garris and headed to the lake after dinner.

Daniel & Samuel had come down Friday night (Emily had to work Fri. and Sat.) and Doug & Morgan as well. Mammie & Grandaddy made it back late Saturday night, too. We had a fun time visiting, boat riding, fishing, swinging, wrestling with Garris, playing tee ball, and even swimming! It’s nice that the kids are old enough we can put life jackets on them and sit (surround them!) without having to actually get in, because it was chilly in the air to me! Doug & Morgan ended up having to leave earlier than planned on Sunday to get to a surprise birthday party for a friend that wasn’t communicated well and Daniel & Samuel headed out late Sunday at bed time. Mammie ended up taking half a day (that turned into a full day) on Monday to visit with us more and see us off. It was a good weekend.
