When did my child turn into Owen Wilson? For some reason, that's all I see when I look at this picture. That and I like how the jelly from her Uncrustable gives her that Cindy Crawford beauty mark/mole.

I'm sure by now, everyone has heard the breaking news that Britney has filed for divorce from K-Fed. Even on a charged election day, she manages to steal the spotlight; the girl's got skills. Some recent reports are saying that he is thinking about trying to battle for custody of the kids (most likely in hopes of drawing out the process and getting a more favorable settlement?) A poll on this sight asked opinons on whether or not he should get custody and it was 97% "when hell freezes over." I just found it ironic that the tabloids made Britney out to be such a bad mom (driving with her son in her lap, forward facing carseat, exposed head to sun in convertible, tripping while carrying her son) and yet, "everyone" now thinks she's a great mom. I'm not saying this in a negative or judgemental way, I just found it interesting. That when compared to a freely-spawning, womanizing, wife-beater wearing, bad white rapper, she comes out looking golden. ok, maybe that was judgemental. I think it's a fairly smart PR move for her big comeback.

gossip and small (baby) talk

I'm sure many of you have seen the headlines by now about poor Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillipe calling it quits. I was sad; I thought they were one of Hollywood's golden couples that kept their family out of the press and were really good for each other. I thought it was weird at first, but they seemed to really be making it work and were suited to each other. I really like Reese (like she's an old friend or something). All the way back to Man in the Moon. That's a good movie. Granted, I used to judge movies by how much I cried/they affected me, so be warned. Also, I'm sure you have heard all the sordid tales from the mudsling that has become poor Sara Evans highly publicized divorce.

In other, more important news, Dellaina is really crawling well now and she's pulling all the way up to standing easily. She likes to walk holding onto your fingers and doesn't immediately stick her butt out to sit down when I try to pull my hands away now. I think she's getting a little more confident. This weekend at Granny's she had two blocks, one in each hand, and she started to bang them together and then suddenly realized, she wasn't holding on to the couch anymore. It was pretty cute. I have a video of her scooting from one end of the couch to the other, fussing the whole time. She's also been mimicking sounds a lot lately. I wouldn't call it words just yet, but it's getting very close. More and more often she's repeating the same sing-song phrase or intonation I use when I'm saying things like, "all done" "bye-bye" "thank you" and Friday's excitement was on the way home I was saying, "I love you" and 3 times in a row, she did the same sounds! I was so excited! It wasn't just a fluke; she was listening to me and then repeating back (as best she could) and it was very similar sounding! I have tried to get her to do it ever since and she has a few times, but not with the same gusto and assurance as the first few times. The same video of the couch captures a little bit of it, but not too convincingly, according to Greg. She still doesn't sign much for me, but she has an understanding of what I'm saying and has certain movements of her own. I have a little routine when I'm making her bottles and she knows what's coming. She can be fussing after her bath, but as soon as I start, "pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake" with her feet, she's laughing. When she gets put in her high chair, she slaps the tray like "feed me" and knows to lean forward to get her bib put on. She's good at taking it off and handing it to me afterwards. I laid her spoon on the tray tonight and she'd grab it and aim for her mouth; most of the time. She's known, "clap clap clap," "bang bang bang," and "pat pat pat" for a while now. She knows "dance" and I think, "music." She's good with "Kisses" and "hugs" and "share." She turns the pages when we're reading (and not too eagerly/soon!) She turns the light switch off when we're leaving the room (or sometimes right after I've turned it on when we're coming into the room.) I'm really working on "help" (per Megan's suggestion) and "clean up!" And these are all just in our little world. She has another world at day care where I'm sure she does and has learned even more. Just thought a report was overdue.

Newsworthy?

Did everyone see the pictures of baby Suri? I'm sure they are hard to miss, but just thought I'd post about them anyway. She is a beautiful baby. . whoever's she is! Just kidding. I do think she looks like Tom, but has Katie's eyes. She's very adorable, perfect skin and big eyes and I cannot believe that hair! If I didn't know 2 other little babies (whatup Bailey & Claire!) with dark hair like that I'd be super skeptical.

I also feel compelled to report about The Crocodile Hunter's untimely and freakish death. I'm sure it's old news now, but it was sad to learn about it over the weekend. But at least he was doing what he loved. It's kind of even more freaky that his death was caught on tape (because they were filming) and I was reading one article that captioned saying "Croc Hunter's death caught on tape" and then a "watch video" and a poll about "Has TV gone too far" I was morbidly curious how someone would have been able to play it and thought TV had definitely gone too far, but yes, I did click on the link and it was relieved that it was just a news broadcast about his death, not his actual death. The poll was just talking about how extreme people will go for TV ratings. . .

I thought I had lost my keys at the gym last night. I drive Greg's truck, because my vehicle is already in the garage and it's just easier, but I still have to take my set of keys because it has the pass they scan. Well, I go to get in the car this morning and cannot find my keys anywhere. After I'd called and gone by the gym to make sure they weren't there Greg found them in his truck. whew! And my cell phone that we thought had died over the weekend (too much slobber from Dellaina killed the microphone and no one could hear me, but I could hear them) thankfully dried out and is operational again! Two things that I was really worried about being a hassle have resolved themselves. I'm waiting for something that won't, but hopefully I've avoided them for now!

Red Carpet

Ah, guilty pleasure night. Curled up on the couch for a 3 hour stretch (less, thankfully with TiVo) to watch celebrities gather and complain about getting taxed on all the excessive free stuff they are given. I think I love the Emmy's more than the Oscars, because I am actually in the loop on my TV shows! While I may not be able to remember the last time I stepped foot in a movie theatre or just watched a movie for that matter (X-men 2, anyone?!) I do keep up with a shameful amount of Television shows. From Reality to Reality Competition (yes, apparently, they are different categories now!) to all those medical shows I love, to comedies and dramas. So, anyway, let's get down to it. My own fashion review, because well, what else is there to talk about, really? And I am so in the know when it comes to fashion! Once you have stopped laughing, you may continue.

Let's start with the more boring, I suppose: The Good:


I looked all over the place to find this picture. .and it doesn't really do it justice. I just remembered there was someone in a great deep green dress last night that really fit her well. I couldn't remember who it was, and now that I know, I can see why, because I still don't really know her (although it seems she has been in quite a few movies. None that I have seen, but still a long list)




I like the simplicity of this black and white number. Nice, loose hair and almost Grecian pattern around the waist.

Another white dress, but I think it is so elegant and classy. I love silver hair, too. And she definitely gets props for her acceptance speech and using the phrase, "ass over tit!" I prefer her layered white dress to Debra Messings, whom I love, but just did not dig her dress as much.


I liked this dress on Allison Janney. She is super tall and I liked the 20's Flapper theme with the long chains to boot.

This is another classic black and white, but it's light and flowy and she was really glowing.
One of my overall favorites, I thought Katherine Heigl looked fabulous! So golden. Reminescent of Charlize Theron, but I actually think Katherine is pretty (ouch!) Too bad she had major boob sweat, though! I hate it for her. I didn't notice it on TV the night of the telecast, but they sure kept showing in in the fashion reviews, but most still gave her props anyway.



A little more controversial, but I am on the "I like it" side with Cheryl Hines. I loved the color and the fit and I thought the beaded back was different, in a good way. Yes, I get the ice-skating jokes and I see the creepy smiley skull face, but I still liked it overall.
I wasn't completely sure about this one, because of the non-color and usually I am a big fan of grey, but I've been won over the more I see it. I think it fits her so well (Zac Posen knows how to really dress a woman's body!)and I like the red accents. Some thought it was too matchy matchy with the bag, shoe and lipstick, but I like them all together. Just enough bright red if you ask me.

And I just wanted to say, look at Chloe all girlified!

I wasn't sure about the appropriateness of Annette's dress (I think because it's short and sleek, it bothered me), but I do really like it, so thought I'd throw it in. This is the best pic I could find, unfortunately.


Ok and now for the fun stuff and some really bad:

I'm sorry, I'm just not into this dress. Some folks really liked and and some just said the jewelry was too much (she did admit she was feeling some Run DMC) but even without the gold chains, I can't help but think of a bad 80's bridesmaids dress. True, it is a softer material than I'm imagining, but I still don't dig it.


Love Kyra, but not so much this dress! Another flowy material in a non-color. The top I can handle fine and the bottom might be ok, if it wasn't for that horrible knot of fabric. I love the woman(?) behind her trying to swat it back in place. I'm not sure what she's really doing, but that's what it looked like. I wanted to show a picture of her and Kevin together, but where he was on her left, because he couldn't even get near her for the flower monstrosity, but I gave up looking.

I just don't get it. It's a harsh space-age top with a big, baggy bottom on a tiny frame. I didn't like her hair or makeup either. Quite frankly, I often don't get the all the rage about her.



WTF?! I mean that is fug-ly. I don't even know where to begin. I think her slumpy pose says it all. The nest on top of her head? The insect hair clip she got at Claire's? The ill-fitting floral curtains she's wrapped around her body? But, I would expect nothing more from deart sweet, totally lost Paula.

How many ways can we say Horrible?! (Blogger is so offended, it's refusing to paste the picture, so hopefully the link will get you there.) I just don't know what she was thinking with this totally too casual and unflattering outfit. As one of the fashion reviewers said, "it looks like she swallowed a barrel and wrapped a bulky AARP utility belt around it, stuffed with hard candies, One-A-Day-Plus-Iron and complete with gadgets to detect the best early bird specials."


This is a good vs. a bad photo. Heidi showing how to properly fabulously dress despite being 8 months pregnant (although, I deduct major points for making sure she sticks her leg through the slit in every single picture, but I loved her hair, too, it was a cool twisty braid thing) whereas poor Gillian wearing some obscure black frock like it's not the golden age of maternity and we're not now proud to show off our baby-making bodies. Sadly, the first time, I did not even know she was pregnant, which I suppose might have been what she was going for, but it wasn't a good thing, either way. And just for added measure, here's another good example of dressing your pregnant body not as if you were dying.


I'm not sure if it's the green color or the fact that the flaps look like the shape of cut-out cardboard swords, but it makes me think of Peter Pan. It's just nasty, if you ask me.


I like the color. yup, um, did I mention the color is nice? I think that's all the nice things I can manage to say.


It just makes me think of a circus tent. If you took out the sheen, my parents had a couch very much like this. I do like the red hair (go figure) but not with those colors!



To steal a well-used phrase from Grey's Anatomy. . .seriously? These superhero outfits were what you left your house in to go to the Emmy's? seriously? One is bad enough, but in combination I do feel blinded by the dynamic duo.



Oh, wow! I know I'm missing a great opportunity here to come up with something hilariously witty to say, but really, I'm at a loss for words.

Color Coordinated

When did they start making thongs for boobs? There are some scary pictures, but if you read the blurbs with each of these pictures, they are even more amusing - the writer is pretty snarky.

Dellaina and I just got back from a walk in which I think she passed out from heat exhaustion -- it's soooo hot! She's waking up now, but I'm still sticky with sweat. She was wearing her pink G shirt today (which was already much harder to fit over her head this morning than the last time she wore it) and as we went out the door, I grabbed her Georgia Girl ball cap and even her UGA pacifier. At first I was thinking it was cute that she was so themed, but then I realized, I was wearing my red (maroon) pants and a black shirt! And I started thinking about what someone might say if they ran into us and how crazy they might think I was for going so overboard with it all. And I have to admit that more often than not I dress Dellaina and myself in similar colors or outfits. Go ahead, go back and look at any photos I have of us and you'll see. No, I don't have the extensive girlie wardrobe that she does, but sometimes I'll be inspired to dress up with her or something a little more subtle like if she's wearing her aqua overalls, I'll wear my aqua shirt or peach or orange or pink or whatever. I'm a mood color and clothes person (I've always tried to match my underwear or undershirt to my shirt -- or coordinate, it doesn't have to match. Some people match their underwear and their bra, but that's a rare one for me, but usually my color mood starts with my underwear ), so it seems natural that if I'm in a particular mood for a particular color for either of our outfits, that will probably carry over into the other. And secretly, I enjoy feeling somewhat connected with her throughout the day as cheesy as that sounds. But, it's gotten where it's not so secret anymore as I am posting about it on my blog, but also because I've even had her teachers or Greg's co-workers point it out and you can only act surprised so many times before they catch on that it's intentional. And then you feel a little silly.

Sulking

Kirby just asked me if I wanted to go see Superman Returns with him and Tyler at 4:30. I haven't been to the theatre in FOREVER (I think the last time was X-Men 2 with Tyler & Kirby) and we all watch Smallville and discuss at the water cooler together, so it would be fun. Alas, I have a sick child to tend to that I would feel guilty about leaving. Not to mention Greg probably will be crashing when he gets home and it wouldn't be considerate for me to run off to a movie. Also, I have class at the gym at 5:45. I only go twice a week, so I can't afford to miss any for such trivial reasons. But dang it! Why couldn't they wait and go tomorrow more during the workday to alleviate my guilt and my workload? So, I'm pouting now. I'll be leaving early, too, then, to go pick up my sick child! And have time to get ready for class.

Speaking of good shows and spending so much time with doctors lately I've realized that I have a thing for medical shows. I love ER, House, Grey's Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, even Crossing Jordan is a bit of this medical drama category. I always liked Extreme Makeover, too. Hmm, I didn't realize I really liked surgery ones so much. It was just something I realized and wondered if it had anything to do with my dad being a doctor.

On a further medical note, my brother, Doug sent me this link to this article about stem cell research, if you have time to peruse or interest in the subject. That's a hot topic.

Other things to dish about:
Yesterday, I was driving home from picking up Dellaina and was behind a truck with those metal sides/gates that hold lawn equipment and there was a big lawn mower in the back. And there was a guy sitting on the lawn mower! Just riding along. It was fairly odd and amusing. I wish I had a picture to share.

I felt weird posting about celebrity gossip this morning when talking about Dellaina, but now that I'm on a lighter note, I suppose I can include these visuals. I think Kiera Knightly is one of the most beautiful women -- that skin! Flawless! I haven't seen Pirates, but in Love Actually, she's gorgeous and captivating. Emily think she looks just like Winona Ryder, which I give some validation to. Anyway, BUT, she has gotten pretty nasty looking lately! So bony! And what's up with Kate Bosworth? She is a skeleton with a massively disproportionate head! People quiz (not sure if it works for everyone)

One last link to promote Store brand or generic brands: the Top 5 things you should buy generic. I commented on Megan's blog not too long ago about how much I like Publix storebrand packaging. They've come out with a very clean look for their products and it's creative to me. The aluminum foil has crumpled foil animals on the front and the napkins have origami animals made from napkins. I just think it's creative. I wish I had a picture. That's all for now.
